Little Stuff Is Not Feeling Well

2:29 PM Posted by Mommy Is Green

We're all feeling under the weather. My husband has been sick since last week and now Little Stuff and I are not feeling well either. Little Stuff had his regular checkup with the doctor this week. It couldn't have been more perfect timing. I was anxious to ask the doctor what I could do to make my sweet little toddler more comfortable.

The first thing the doctor mentioned was a cool mist humidifier. I definitely wanted to do some research to find one that wasn't made with toxic plastic. Luckily, I didn't have to search for very long. I headed over to The Soft Landing Blog and found an answer. Alicia at The Soft Landing reported she confirmed that all Crane humidifiers are BPA-free, PVC-free, and phthalate-free. That's with the exception of the cord but I'm most concerned about the water tank and the body of the humidifier so I can live with the cord issue for now. My husband headed over to Target and purchased the Crane Frog Cool Mist Humidifier. It was in their weekly sales ad for $29.99. Hopefully, we'll find that it works well.

The next thing I asked my son's doctor about was honey. I wanted to know if it was safe to use for his cough. I knew that honey wasn't safe for infant use but I wanted to ask about toddler use anyway. He said there have been studies that buckwheat honey is good for colds (I found an article online too). Fortunately, I was able to get my hands on some organic buckwheat honey at our local health food store. I'm going to mix it with a little bit of warm water and organic lemon juice. Since cough medicines aren't recommended for very young children I'm glad there's something I can use to help ease Little Stuff's cough.

To help him breathe easier at night I also use Nature's Baby
Ah-Choo Chest Rub. It is USDA certified organic and contains organic eucalyptus menthol. I purchased it at The Vitamin Shoppe in my area a while back. I'm glad I had this stuff on hand because it helps. I use the chest rub for myself too.

If you've used any natural cold remedies that have worked well for your children or yourself I'd love to hear about them. Feel free to share in a comment.

Be well!

Hi Victoria, I don't have any natural remedies, but I wanted to say that I hope everyone in the house feels better soon. Especially Little Stuff. I hate it when my kids are sick.
