Make Your Own Baby Wipes or Spray Solution

12:09 PM Posted by Mommy Is Green

Lately, I decided I wanted to start making some of my own products. Partly because I wanted safer organic items, and partly because it costs less to make your own products in the long run. I came across a video (shown below) by Diba from Babies411.com on how to make your own baby wipes using water, baby wash, and baby oil or olive oil. I was totally inspired to make my own wipes solution from her recipe. Here's what I did:

Baby Wipe Spray Solution for a 4 oz. Bottle

Distilled Water - 4 oz.
Organic Baby Wash - 1/2 Tablespoon
Organic Olive Oil - 1/4 Tablespoon

I use organic cotton cloth wipes and spray down the wipe itself for each change. I use a glass spray bottle I purchased for $2.99. You can usually find them at Whole Foods or other natural food stores. If you prefer you can make baby wipes to put in a container (see the Babies411.com video below). My sister-in-law made cloth wipes to put in a container and she likes to use less baby wash because she uses a different brand of wash. You can play around with the solution to see what works best for you.

I prefer to use distilled water in the recipe but boiled and cooled water will work too. The reason I use distilled is to help prevent bacterial growth or mold. I asked Diba at Babies411.com how to best prevent mold when making the baby wipes in her video since the weather is now warmer. She suggested making only half a roll of wipes at a time. Making less and keeping your supply fresh won't leave time for mold growth. She also said you can add a drop of tea tree oil to the wipes mixture but that it will take away from the nice scent of the Earth Mama Angel Baby Shampoo & Body Wash we use in our mixtures. I have to say she's right about that because Earth Mama Angel Baby products have a delicious orange scent you won't want to change by adding anything. Just be sure to make new spray solution often or make small batches of wipes.

Here's the recipe for making actual wipes if you prefer, instead of making a spray solution:

Special thanks to Diba at Babies411.com for this wipes recipe and showing us that it can easily be done ourselves at home!

Ok, so I know this is a little late, but I am finding out more and more how much I love this stuff! I have to admit, I did not use organic soap, but I think I will next time. I also doubled the water because it seemed too soapy to me. I put some water in an old plastic wipe container I had left over and just used extra baby washcloths because I got a TON. And now that I started cloth diapering its easy to just throw them in the wash with them, I spray one or two squirts on the diaper cover and wipe it down, I spray my daughters hands when she gets something yucky on them and wipe them off... it's all purpose wonderfulness!

Hi Victoria! I will definitely be making my own wipe solution so thanks for posting this recipe! So simple.

Also, thanks for commenting on my blog today. I'm not sure if you saw my post about "entering into giveaways as a coping mechanism for dealing with various family tragedies," but I've felt a conviction to stop this obsessive habit :) I was hoping that the last giveaway I enter would be something ending on August 1st...but since you actually left me a personal message, I will enter the Willow Store/Sprout Change giveaway! I REALLLLLY want to try this diaper out. I hope I win! :)

    Peace out, Green Mama!

Hi! I'm a new follower. Really enjoying your blog. Great recipe. I recently started using home-made wipes too. I don't use distilled water, but I think I might do the switch. Here's my recipe too:
