Organic Bath & Body Products I'm Using

9:20 AM Posted by Mommy Is Green

Sometimes it takes a while to find the organic bath & body products that work best for you. I always say, "Not everything will work for everyone, but something will always work for someone."

I'm very specific about ingredients so it's taken me quite a bit of time to find what's right for me. I thought I'd share what I'm currently using. I know these products might not work for everyone, but here are some products that I like:

Lotion - I use either Earth Mama Angel Baby Lotion or Dr. Bronner's Orange Lavender Organic Lotion. Whichever one I can get my hands on locally at the time I need it is the one I get. Both are very good.

Hand & Shower Soap - Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild Liquid Castile Soap is awesome! We also like to use the Peppermint sometimes too. The thing about Dr. Bronner's is that it never goes to waste. If you don't like it for one thing, you can use it for something else. It has many uses.

Shaving - Yoreganics Shaving Gel is my favorite so far. I find it very difficult to find shave gels or creams with good organic ingredients. This shaving gel does not make me feel dry or itchy, and I really like the ingredient list. My husband sometimes uses Dr. Bronner's Organic Lemongrass Lime Shaving Gel. I find it to be a little too thin for me but it works for him. Update: My husband informed me that the Dr. Bronner's tube wasn't shaken up enough and that's why it seemed thin to me. He said once he really, really shook it up it was a thicker gel.

Deodorant - Soapwalla is the best natural deodorant I've tried. It's wonderful for combating odor and also helps with wetness (no aluminum).

Sunscreen - I like Badger SPF 30 Unscented Sunscreen & Badger SPF 30+ Face Stick. Some people say it's too white on their skin but we don't seem to have that problem. Then again we are very pale people. We rub it in and it looks just fine on us.

Natural Toothpaste - Here's another difficult one for me because the one toothpaste I really like in which I'm pleased with the ingredients comes in an *aluminum tube. It's Weleda Salt Toothpaste. It's fantastic at cleaning teeth and my mouth has never felt fresher. I do wish it was packaged differently though.

*I do try to reduce my use of plastic but for some products, like toothpaste tubes, I'd prefer plastic made from recycled materials over aluminum. According to Weleda, their aluminum tubes are coated with a BPA-free epoxy resin. However, I've noticed the outside of the aluminum tube where it is not painted (and must not be lined) rubs off if you get toothpaste on it. It's something I'm very weary about.

I am a huge fan of Dr. Bronner's castile liquid soap. My family uses the almond. I tried the Dr. Bronner's lotion years ago, but found it too greasy on my skin. I was just looking at EWG the other day though and noticed it has a good rating. I may have to give it a go again IF I can find it for sale in any stores here. One of our natural foods markets chose to drop the product. I am really pleased with Badger's sunscreen, but we have the "too white on our skin" problem as well (and we are fair skinned).

I was interested in the Suzanne Organics line (Suzanne Somers) and kept hearing about all the wonderful organic ingredients (plus it's certified non-toxic), but japanese honeysuckle is used as the natural preservative. Ugh!

I've been using 100% organic argan oil for a few weeks, and am mostly satisfied with the results. I just wish I could find something to combat the awful breakouts I have on my face related to perimenopause.

@flmom Maybe a lotion stick would work well for you. I've really been wanting to try one. That way I can get the top of my hands where I need it the most and leave my fingertips completely dry for typing, etc. I haven't been able to get one in my area though.

Sometimes my loacl health food store orders things for me to pick up there that they don't usually have in stock. Like my local store carries Dr. Bronner's products, but doesn't always have everything there, like the shaving gel. So they place a special order for it to come in with their regular shipment.

I tried to get the Organic Essence Lotion to Go Stick through my local store but they could get everything but the sticks from that brand for some reason. I was so bummed.

@flmom I almost forgot...If you're having breakouts I would highly recommend Brittanie's Thyme Organic Blemish Toner. When I was having breakout problems on my face it really helped them. Put it on with an organic cotton ball and you'll see the dirt come off your face like nothing else. It's amazing stuff!

Bummer about the japanese honeysuckle! I won't use products with that ingredient either.

Nice list! I love my castile soap and I recently discover that my local walgreens carries the lanvender and the peppermint big bottles so I got very excited about that!

I got the stuff I ordered from Maia'z and I'm really looking forward to try them.. They smell AWESOME!!

I'll have to try the shaving gel.. I've always loved gels and my husbands loves it to.. I feel it leaves the skin way softer and hydrated..

    Thanks for sharing! =)

Thanks for sharing the list. I was just thinking yesterday if there was organic or natural shaving gel. I've been using a shaving soap and it works but I always like the gel. I have both Dr. Bronners Peppermint & Almond soap which I love because of the many uses, I just wish more places would carry their other products :(. I don't have many locations close by that carry natural or organic products. I will have to check out the the other items (online of course) to see which one works for me.

so good to know what is working and not working, great list!
what about shampoo/conditioner? I have been thinking of getting some better stuff as mine is not so great in the toxicity department...any thoughts?

@Darcy I'll email you as a shampoo/conditioner explanation would be a seriously long comment. Lol!

Another appreciated and loved post by you - thanks! We use Dr. Bronner's for the shower too, actually, for baby's bath. I haven't used their lotion but will have to check that out. Hubby uses Ballard organics for a shaving soap (it must foam up when applying) but it's made by a local company and not sure if they sell nationally. We started using Eco-Dent a tooth powder which is in a small plastic bottle and made in the US! Anyway, thanks for sharing what you use.
