Translate a Blog, Make a Friend

3:32 PM Posted by Mommy Is Green

A little over a year ago I had someone new stopping by to enter my giveaways. After a while they also started commenting on my review and personal posts too. When someone stops by to comment on my blog I like to return the favor if they have a blog themselves. There was only one hiccup...this person's blog was in Spanish. I took French in high school so I couldn't even begin to translate.

Time and time again this lovely person would leave comments on my posts. I really did want to be able to comment on their posts as well. I figured there had to be some kind of way. There had to be some kind of site for translation. So I searched and low and behold there was Google Translate. I thought to myself, "This has been here the whole time?...Duh!"

I went ahead and translated the blog that is now called Naturalmente Mama. The Google translation from Spanish to English isn't always perfect, but it's good enough for me to get the gist of what the blogger, Maybelline, is saying. Luckily, she speaks English too so we're able to communicate all of the time.

Over the past year Maybelline and I have become good friends. We continue to comment on each other's blogs and support each other whenever we can. I couldn't imagine not knowing her! Next time someone stops by your blog to comment but their blog is in a different language, take the time to translate their site. You may just make a friend!

Side note: The giveaways on Naturalmente Mama have both a Spanish and English version without even having to translate. So stop by and enter. :)

OMG! you just made me cry!!!! but with happy tears!! I absolutely love your blog and I'm very grateful for your friendship!. Like you said I started to visit your blog for your giveaways and I found so many good info that I became a regular and I am always looking forward to your posts.

Thank you so much for everything you have taught me, for taking the time to translate my blog and comment. I've told you this before and I'll say it again: You are my inspiration!

I love how our kids are closed in age 'cause we struggle with similar situations and I know I can count on you and vicerversa!.

On a side note I want to let you know that I won the 2011 Blogs by Latinas Awards for Favorite Home Blog!!.. so Thank you for your support on that one too!!! =D

Thank you for being there for me and for your constant support.

Fun! I need to utilize this feature. There is a blog I visit from time to time that's in Swedish. She reads my English so I comment on the pics I see and what I can make of the post but I do need a translator. thanks for the reminder that it's there and ready to use. :)

Awwww ... sweet story and great reminder! I read one Australian blog, and used to visit a couple of South African blogs, but they are all thankfully in English. I'll have to explore and put this feature to use sometime.

This is funny because I had a commenter who when I went to his blog was in Spanish too. And like you, I fiddled around and finally found out about the translator. Good to know!
