I Recycle My Toothbrushes Through the Mail

I previously posted about Preserve and the Gimme 5 program which takes your #5 plastics and recycles them. It's a really cool program and I appreciate that Preserve makes recycled products that can be recycled again. If you live near a Whole Foods Market, they sometimes have a bin for the Gimme 5 program. If you don't live near a Whole Foods Market, there's still a way to make use of Preserve's Gimme 5 program through the mail.
Recently, I purchased a replacement Preserve Toothbrush that already came in a mailer. How convenient is that?! I just took my new toothbrush out and put my old toothbrush in it's place in the mailer. I added a piece of tape, then sent it out in the mail. I couldn't think of anything easier.
Old toothbrushes then become plastic lumber for things such as picnic tables and park benches. Don't worry, they don't recycle your old toothbrush into new toothbrushes. Lol! The new toothbrushes are actually made from recycled yogurt cups.
I did not receive any compensation for this post.

Wow. Well that is pretty cool. This is my first time hearing about recycling toothbrushes. It makes sense though.

Love Preserve toothbrushes! I am currently on my first one and love it. Now I just need to get my kids the Jr. Preserve toothbrushes.

Wow, what a find! I am going to check this site out...
How are you Victoria? I have not been blogging much lately because of a lengthy writing project I'm trying to finish-I'm hoping that I finish the main portion of it by the end of October.

Very cool!! It seems such an small thing but in our house there are 3 toothbrushes ending up in the trash, this is definitely something I could start doing from now on.
Thanks for sharing! =)

i like that preserve recycles but I didn't feel they cleaned my teeth that well. i wish they'd look into some alternative styles of bristle placement and so forth. in the meantime i'll feel guilty not being able to recycle mine

I use these too and they are on my to blog about in the future list. I put them in my mailbox for return and my mail carrier doesn't take them. She must not really believe they are outgoing mail! I end up taking them to the PO myself.

I love that it came in its own mailer - nice! I will have to look for the bin the next time we make the trek to Whole Foods.

@bitt The flat bristles work well for me but my husband prefers different bristle placements like yourself. So I see your point. Maybe it would be worth sending an email to Preserve?

I never thought about recycling toothbrushes. Very cool! And I want to say I've tried these toothbrushes before but didn't realize they were meant (encouraged) to be recycled. Hmm...I'll have to check it out. Thanks V!
